Turn an iPhone photo into a link that actually opens

iPhones save photos as HEIC, and almost nothing outside Apple's ecosystem can display one. Paste a HEIC into a GitHub issue, a Slack message, a CMS or an email and you get a broken image or a download prompt. This tool converts the photo to a standard JPEG and gives you a hosted URL that loads in any browser, app or document.

Converted in your browser, not on a server

The HEIC is decoded locally in your browser tab. Only the finished JPEG is uploaded, so your original file — and the extra metadata HEIC photos carry, including location — stays on your device. Unlike the other tools here, which host your file byte-for-byte, this one has to re-encode, because HEIC can't be served to browsers as it is.

What to expect

  • The output is a JPEG, so there is a small, one-time quality cost from re-encoding.
  • Files up to 25 MB are accepted; the converted JPEG must fit this tool's 2 MB limit, and quality is lowered automatically if needed.
  • Multi-frame HEIC files convert to their first image.
  • Only HEIC/HEIF files are accepted here. Renamed files that aren't actually HEIC fail with an error, and photos over 60 megapixels are refused. For a JPEG, use JPG to URL.

When you need a permanent URL

Links from this tool are temporary and disappear within 24 hours — fine for a quick share, not for a README or a production app. Save the image to a free account right after converting and the link becomes permanent. For automated uploads, PixelVault is an image hosting API: one call, a permanent CDN URL, zero egress fees.

Already have a JPEG or PNG? Use JPG to URL, PNG to URL, or image to URL for any supported type — those host your file as-is.

HEIC to URL Converter — FAQ

Is my HEIC file converted or hosted as-is?

Converted. HEIC isn't a format browsers, Slack, GitHub or most websites can display, so a HEIC link would just download or show a broken image. The conversion to JPEG happens in your browser — your original HEIC is never uploaded — and the JPEG is what gets hosted.

Does my photo leave my device as a HEIC?

No. The HEIC is decoded locally and only the resulting JPEG is uploaded. The decoder runs in your browser tab.

Will I lose quality?

HEIC to JPEG is a lossy re-encode, so there is a small quality cost. The tool starts at high JPEG quality and only lowers it if the result would exceed the 2 MB limit for this free tool. The photo is re-encoded in your browser, so embedded metadata such as GPS location is not normally carried into the JPEG.

Why does an iPhone photo use HEIC?

HEIC (HEIF with HEVC compression) stores photos at roughly half the size of JPEG at similar quality, so iPhones save to it by default. The catch is compatibility: most of the web can't display it.

Can I convert Live Photos or multi-image HEIC files?

You'll get the first still image. Burst and multi-frame HEIC files are not expanded into separate links.

How long does the link last?

Links from this free tool are removed within 24 hours. To keep one, save it to a free PixelVault account right after converting — that makes the URL permanent.
