Billing & subscriptions

Last updated: October 2026

PixelVault has a free plan and paid plans (Starter and Pro). The limits and prices for each are on the pricing page; this page explains how paying, changing plan and cancelling work. Payments are handled by Stripe, so we never see or store your card details.

Upgrading

  1. Log in and open your dashboard.
  2. Under Usage, choose the plan you want (Starter or Pro).
  3. Pay on the Stripe checkout page. If you are buying for a company, you can add your company name there.

You are brought back to the dashboard and your plan switches within a few seconds. Your limits (storage, uploads, bandwidth) update at the same time, and nothing changes about your API keys or image URLs.

You need a verified email address to upgrade. Upgrades are not available for accounts that already have an active subscription — change plan from the billing portal instead.

Managing your subscription

Once you are subscribed, the dashboard shows your plan, your next renewal date and a Manage billing button. It opens Stripe's billing portal, where you can:

  • Update your card or add another payment method
  • Change your billing name (including a company name), email and address
  • Download invoices and receipts
  • Switch between plans or cancel your subscription

Billing cycle

Paid plans are billed monthly, in advance, on the day you subscribed. The renewal date is shown in your dashboard and in the billing portal. If you switch plan part-way through a period, Stripe shows the exact amount before you confirm.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time from Manage billing. Your paid plan stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for, then your account returns to the free plan. You are not charged again.

What happens when you go back to the free plan

  • Free-plan rules apply from then on: the free storage, upload and bandwidth limits, and the free-tier image retention policy.
  • Bandwidth grace period. If you used more bandwidth than the free plan allows, your images keep being served for 14 days after the downgrade before the free bandwidth limit is applied. We email you at 80% and 100% of your limit.
  • Storage. If you are over the free storage limit, existing images are kept but new uploads are blocked until you are back under it or upgrade again.
  • Your account, API keys and image URLs are unchanged. You can export your images at any time, on any plan.

Failed payments

If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it automatically over the following days and emails you so you can update your card in the billing portal. Your plan stays active while retries are in progress. If the payment still cannot be collected, the subscription is cancelled and the account returns to the free plan as described above.

Invoices and receipts

Every payment creates an invoice and a receipt, which Stripe emails to the address on your billing details. You can also download all of them from Manage billing. If you need your billing name or address changed on future invoices, update it there before your next renewal.

Refunds and problems with a charge

First payment: if PixelVault isn't right for you, email hello@pixelvault.dev from your account email within 14 days of your first payment for a full refund.

Renewals: renewals aren't refunded, but you can cancel at any time and keep access until the period ends. If you were charged for a renewal by mistake — for example after cancelling — email us and we will refund it.

Accounts terminated for violating the terms of service are not refunded. If anything else looks wrong with a charge, write to the same address and we will sort it out.
