Turn an AVIF into a link, instantly

AVIF is the newest of the mainstream web image formats, and the one most likely to leave you stuck: plenty of tools will export it, fewer will accept it back. Drop one above and this tool gives you a hosted URL you can paste anywhere a link works.

Hosted as-is, not converted

The file is stored and served byte-for-byte — no re-encoding and no conversion to an older format. That's worth stating plainly for AVIF, because the usual advice when something rejects your .avif is "just convert it to PNG", which throws away most of the size advantage you got from AVIF in the first place.

A note on the AVIF format

AVIF is built on the AV1 video codec and generally beats WebP on compression at the same visual quality, sometimes substantially. It supports transparency, wide colour gamut and HDR. Browser support is broad in current versions, though it arrived later than WebP, so very old clients may not render it.

AVIF also shares a container format with HEIC and some video files, which is why strict hosts — this one included — check the file's internal brand rather than trusting the extension. A genuine AVIF uploads fine. A HEIC photo renamed to .avif is rejected, and so is an MP4.

When you need a permanent URL

Links from this tool are temporary and disappear within 24 hours — fine for a quick share, not for a README or a production app. For URLs that stick around, PixelVault is an image hosting API: register once, upload with one call, get a permanent CDN URL with zero egress fees.

Need a different format? Use image to URL for any type, or WebP to URL for the more widely supported option.

AVIF to URL Converter — FAQ

Will my AVIF stay an AVIF?

Yes. The file is hosted byte-for-byte with no re-encoding, so it stays .avif and the hosted link serves exactly what you uploaded — you keep the compression advantage rather than losing it to a PNG conversion.

Is AVIF better than WebP?

Usually smaller at the same visual quality, sometimes substantially, and it supports transparency, wide colour gamut and HDR. WebP has the longer track record and slightly broader support in older clients, so WebP is the safer default and AVIF the more efficient one.

Why was my .avif file rejected?

Most likely because it is not actually AVIF inside. AVIF shares its container with HEIC and some video formats, so the file's internal brand is checked rather than its extension. A HEIC photo renamed to .avif will be refused, as will an MP4.

Can I host an AVIF with transparency?

Yes. AVIF supports an alpha channel and nothing is re-encoded, so transparency is preserved exactly.

How long does the AVIF URL last?

Links from this free tool are removed within 24 hours. For a permanent CDN URL, register a free PixelVault account and upload via the API — those URLs do not expire.
