## Turn a WebP into a link, instantly

WebP files turn up constantly now — saved from a browser, exported by a design tool, produced by a build pipeline — and then you need to put one somewhere a URL can point at. Drop it above and this tool hands back a hosted link you can paste into a chat, a doc, a GitHub issue, or a README.

## Your WebP is hosted as-is

The file is stored and served byte-for-byte. No re-encoding, no quality loss, and no silent conversion to another format — which matters for WebP specifically, because plenty of "WebP converters" actually convert _away_ from WebP and hand you a larger PNG. This one keeps the file you gave it.

That includes **transparency**. WebP supports an alpha channel like PNG does, and since nothing is re-encoded, it survives intact.

## A note on the WebP format

WebP typically produces noticeably smaller files than PNG or JPEG at comparable quality, supports both lossy and lossless modes, and handles transparency and animation. Browser support is effectively universal now, which is why so many pipelines emit it by default.

The one place it still bites is software outside the browser — some older desktop tools and a few platforms still won't accept a .webp upload. If you hit that, a [PNG](/tools/png-to-url/) is the safest fallback for graphics and a [JPG](/tools/jpg-to-url/) for photos.

## When you need a permanent URL

Links from this tool are **temporary** and disappear within 24 hours — fine for a quick share, not for a README or a production app. When a WebP URL needs to stick around, PixelVault is an [image hosting API](/image-hosting-api/): register once, upload with a single call, and get a permanent CDN URL with zero egress fees.

Need a different format? Use [image to URL](/tools/image-to-url/) for any type, or [AVIF to URL](/tools/avif-to-url/) for the newer, smaller format.

## WebP to URL Converter — FAQ

Will my WebP stay a WebP?

Yes. The file is hosted byte-for-byte with no re-encoding, so it stays a .webp and the hosted link serves exactly what you uploaded. Many converters quietly turn WebP into PNG, which makes the file bigger; this one does not touch it.

Does WebP transparency survive?

Yes. WebP supports an alpha channel, and because nothing is re-encoded the transparency is preserved exactly as it was in the file you dropped in.

Can I host an animated WebP?

Yes. Animated WebP files are stored and served as-is like any other WebP, so the animation is intact on the hosted URL.

Is WebP better than PNG or JPEG?

Usually smaller at similar quality, and it supports transparency and animation, so for the web it is often the better choice. The exception is compatibility outside browsers — a few desktop tools and platforms still refuse .webp uploads, where PNG or JPEG is the safer pick.

How long does the WebP URL last?

Links from this free tool are removed within 24 hours. For a permanent CDN URL for a README, docs, or an app, register a free PixelVault account and upload via the API — those URLs do not expire.
